CORTALIM: Cortalim Congress leader Olencio Simoes, along with villagers, has raised serious concerns over the increasing number of accidents on the access roads leading to the new Zuari Cable Bridge, particularly from the Cortalim to bridge junction and the stretch from the Toyota showroom side.
Addressing the media, Simoes highlighted that these road sections have become accident-prone zones due to flawed design, sharp curves, and inadequate safety measures. He pointed out that multiple accidents have occurred in recent months, especially during night hours when unclear signage and poor visibility worsen the situation for commuters.
“The current road alignment and layout pose significant hazards to motorists. The sharp curves and lack of proper signage are extremely dangerous. With the NH 66 drawing heavy traffic from Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu, the risk has multiplied, making it imperative that immediate action be taken,” Simoes said.
He further appealed to the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to take swift corrective steps.
“We earnestly request the concerned authorities to conduct a thorough safety audit of these stretches and carry out necessary redesigning and re-engineering works to enhance visibility and reduce curvature hazards,” Simoes added.
Villagers echoed his concerns, urging authorities to prioritise the safety of daily commuters and prevent further mishaps on these busy stretches
