VASCO: Cortalim MLA Anton Vas on Tuesday responded to recent charges on the Bhutani project in Sancoale.
Following claims that Vas had not given any representation to TCP on the project, it went viral and led to a flurry of criticism from opposition leaders and constituents alike.
During a press conference, MLA Anton Vas clarified that he had indeed submitted a representation to the TCP Minister and other relevant departments, including the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Department and the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA), addressing the concerns of the villagers regarding the Bhutani project.
“I was out of the station when the statement was made, which unfortunately caused an uproar on social media, allowing my opposition to target me. I received numerous calls from friends, well-wishers, and media outlets urging me to respond, but I was unable to do so immediately due to my absence,” Vas explained.
Vas further emphasized his stance on the Bhutani project, stating, “I have raised this issue in the assembly, and I am on record for my position on the matter. On 21st June, I wrote to TCP Minister, with copies marked to all relevant departments, after receiving a representation from the villagers of Sancoale on 17th June. I promptly ensured that their concerns were communicated to the minister and the necessary departments. Additionally, I attended a meeting with the villagers who opposed the project, and I urge people not to target me unfairly.”
Addressing the issue of jurisdiction, Vas pointed out that while he is a member of the MPDA, larger construction files are processed by the TCP, and thus, it is beyond his purview to clear such files. “The TCP Minister assured me on the floor of the house that appropriate action would be taken as deemed fit,” he added.
Vas concluded by stating that he had spoken directly with the Minister to clear up any misunderstandings. “I personally called the minister yesterday, and he assured me that necessary action on the project will be taken before Ganesh Chaturthi. Whether that action happens or not is beyond my control,” said Vas.
