Velim: In a significant development following a violent altercation during a temple meeting at Gopal Krishna Sansthan in Velim on July 27, a counter complaint has been filed by Sachin Zuvekar, a resident of Velim. The complaint alleges that between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM, a group of 15 individuals, including Rajendra Kerkar, Amar Khaunekar, Ajay Khaunekar, and others, assaulted him and fellow temple trustees during a dispute over temple matters.
According to Zuvekar, the accused, acting with common intention, used iron rods, wooden sticks, knuckles, and stones to assault him and six other trustees — Vilas Kerkar, Sankalp Zuvekar, Sandesh Zuvekar, Sanjog Zuvekar, Diptesh Mote, and Pramod Zuvekar — causing them bodily injuries. The group also allegedly damaged temple property, including chairs and two vehicles: a KTC Duke belonging to Diptesh Mote and a Maruti car owned by Pramod Zuvekar.
In a serious allegation, Zuvekar also stated that during the clash, several male accused abused and inappropriately touched eight women — Roshni Mote, Archana Kerkar, Urmila Kerkar, Sushma Zuvekar, Sankruti Zuvekar, Vaishali Zuvekar, Vishaka Mote, and Samiksha Sameer Mote — who had arrived at the scene to intervene. The alleged actions amounted to outraging their modesty in public, escalating the gravity of the case.
Cuncolim Police have taken cognizance of the complaint and registered offences accordingly. LPSI Riyanka Naik is currently leading the investigation into this incident, which appears to be part of a larger and deeply rooted local dispute.
