MERCES: The Merces Special Court has issued a notice to victim Rama Kankonkar regarding the bail application of accused Zenito Cardozo.
The court asked Kankonkar whether he wishes to be represented by the Public Prosecutor or an advocate of his choice. The hearing on the bail plea has been adjourned to October 13.
Earlier, the North Goa Special Court had issued a notice to the Investigation Officer on Cardozo’s bail application. Social activist Rama Kankonkar had filed an intervention application, with the next hearing scheduled for October 10.
Sources said Cardozo’s bail plea cited certain facts, including the police’s official statement to the media noting that Kankonkar has not named any mastermind or politician in the attack.
In his statement, Kankonkar identified only one person, Minguel, while the others remain unidentified. However, he has stated that he could identify them if produced before him for a test identification parade.
According to SP Gupta, a total of 23 persons have now been placed under arrest under Sections 126/170 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS) as part of preventive measures. Further investigation into the case is underway.
