Even as the volunteers have shown no reaction to the COVAXIN, which means India could get breakthrough to fight COVID19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to announce the result of COVAXIN phase 1, which has been administered to about 375 volunteers all over India, including Goa.
Goa-based Redkar hospital, which is one of the twelve hospitals carrying out COVAXIN trials, has stopped screening volunteers for phase 2 COVAXIN trials.
Dr Dhananjay Lad of Redkar Hospital said that the DCGI wants to review the data of the phase 1 that is data of all 375 volunters from alll over India.
”Initially the design was to continue phase 1 and 2 but now based on the available data of phase 1, DCGI wants to review the 14 days data of the antibodies,” he said.
Dr Lad added that PM will announce the result of the trial vaccine on august 15th. “After 14 days that is on August 13th. We will submit the data to PM and DCGI and PM will declare the result in August 15th.”
He said that still the hospital will seek permission from DCGI to start the phase 2.
Dr lad also said that in the first phase, the safety of the vaccine is proved as no major reaction is showed in 375 volunteers whom the vaccine was administered.
“By August 13th we will have the antibodies available with us and based on that we will declare the result. The second phase is expected to begin in 3rd or 4th week of August”, Dr Lad stated.
