PANAJI: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that no bio medical waste especially the Covid-19 Waste of home isolation patients and other hazardous waste has been discarded at Sonsoddo garbage dump without following the SOPs of the Union Government.
Rane also said that the Health Department has not authorised any agency to dump the Covid waste at Sonsoddo dump.
“No bio medical waste especially the Covid-19 Waste of home isolation patients and other hazardous wastehas been discarded at Sonsoddo garbage dump without following the SOPs of the Union Government. Also Health Department has not authorised any agency to dump the Covid waste at Sonsoddo dump,” said Rane
He further said that the Health Department has not appointed any agency to handle Covid waste from Sonsoddo dump.
Sonsoddo has been grappling with waste backlogs, which is problematic for the landfill management authorities. Bioremediation is underway at full swing in Sonsoddo where the GWMC wants to clear up land for a waste management facility.
