The Sarvajanik Ganesh Mandals across the State have either decided to cancel or curtail the Ganesh festival this year following the OVID19 pandemic, which has hit the State and the country badly.
The mandals across the State, which normally begin preparations for the either 11 or 21-day festival, are still in double mind.
Many have already decided to cancel the festival this year but no formal announcement has been made, sources said.
One of the oldest Sarvajanik Ganesh festival was held at Sadar Ponda Krantimaidan, which is celebrating the elephant headed god for 48 years have decided to curtail this year’s 49th celebration to just once and half day in a simple manner.
The members of the committee informed that no cultural programmes would be held and strict social distancing will be followed.
While this was the situation in the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav, the situation is no different on celebrations at home.
“We have Ganesh at our home for about 7 day annually but this year we will keep the idol for just one and half day due to COVID. We do not want many people to visit at home,” said Anant Naik from Mapusa said.
Another person Sapnesh Kandolkar from Pilerne too shared similar sentiment saying though they have not decided yet the days of celebration would be curtailed.
