PONDA: The Ponda Police have registered a case of animal cruelty after a complaint was filed by Raj Pratik of the District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (South Goa), attached to the Office of the Collector, South Goa.
According to the complaint, on December 1, at TNK, Bethoda, two cows and a calf were found being transported in a Mahindra Bolero pickup in conditions that violated animal welfare norms. The unidentified owner of the cattle and the driver of the vehicle have been accused of transporting the animals without proper care, food, adequate space, ventilation, or safety measures.
Officials also noted that the ear tags of the animals had been removed, indicating suspected maiming for the purpose of slaughter. The transportation was reportedly undertaken without mandatory permission from the authorities, thereby constituting violations under relevant animal cruelty and transport laws.
Further investigation has been handed over to PSI Pratik Bhat Prabhu of Ponda Police Station.
