MARGAOI: A day after the chairperson and vice chairperson of Margao Municipal Council was declared unopposed, the new ruling dispensation received a jolt as two councillors of Digambar kamat panel stood up in revolt for not taking them in confidence before declaring the candidates for top two posts.
Two-time councillor and ex-chairperson of Margao, Gyanshyam Prabhu Shiroadkar expressed unhappiness over selection of chairperson.
He said Digamber Kamat not only ditched Madgaokars, he also surrendered before Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai.
Ghanshayam said “I won’t accept the chairperson post if offered by Digamber Kamat, I am not member of any party I am free to think of my future. I will take my supporters and voters in confidence and take the decision”.
Gynashaym Shirodkar also lashed out at the administration of Margao municipality and termed chief officer and staff of municipality corrupt.
“I have proof that chief officer and the staff of municipality are involved in corruption and if this continues, I will file a complaint before Anti-Corruption Bureau,” he said.
Another councillor Damodar Shirodkar a strong supporter Kamat, said that hewas totally upset with the selection.
“This is injustice to me and Ganshyam bab as we both are senior and experienced councillors. I have worked for Kamat from last many years and stood strong beside him at every point of time. Today, I got reward of my loyalty. I will discuss with my supporters and will take further step,” he stated.
Another independent councillor Mahesh Amonkar also said that Kamat has done injustice on his workers.
“I have experienced it he is a dirty politician, who is famous for taking revenge from behind the curtain,” he said.
He also added “I was the first to rebel against Kamat now many will follow me”.
Goenkarponn also learnt that if Ghanshayam, Damodar Shiroadkar decided to leave the camp of Digamber Kamat then it will be difficult for Kamat in the coming assembly elections.
People were silently taking that cracks have started developing in the kingdom of Digamber Kamat in Margao.
Talks on with Congress
High Command: Vijai
“The alliance between Congress and Goa forward has made successful attempt in Margao Municipality elections and this will also go forward in upcoming Assembly elections. Our talks are on with the high command of Congress party,” said Goa Forward supremo Vijai Sardessai.
He was talking at Lohia Maidan after paying homage to Ram Manohar Lohiya along with Opposition leader Digambar Kamat and newly elected councillors.
“We have come together and fought Margao municipality elections against BJP. The voter gave us majority this is new beginning and Goa will follow this, people will show the place to Pramod Sawant- led BJP government and will throw it out of power,” he said.
He said the present government is working against the interest of Goans.
“We are jointly working for the development of Margao and Fatorda and will take up issued related to the city,” he said.
Digambar Kamat said there was a joint meeting of councillors and it was decided to gave first chance to Goa Forward.
“This arrangement is for next 15 months. This will be on rotation both party will get two term of for chairperson and vice chairperson for 15 month each,” he said.
Lyndon Pereira today took charge of Chairperson and Dipali Sawal took charge of vice chairperson of Margao municipality after all councillors were given oath.
