Pernem: In the early hours of April 7, 2025, a decisive strike against illegal sand mining was made by the Tiracol Coastal Police.
The operation, which took place around 4:50 am, targeted illicit extraction activities in the Tiracol River at Naibag, Pernem. Under the leadership of PSI Yogesh Shirodkar and PC Aditya Shetye, the police conducted the raid using a coastal boat, seizing a canoe involved in the illegal extraction of sand.
The police have successfully seized equipment and sand worth approximately Rs 2,60,000, including five cubic meters of sand. A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the BNS Act, Goa Daman Diu act, and Mines and Minerals Act. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
This crackdown highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb illegal sand mining activities, which have been a persistent issue in the region. Despite previous measures, such activities continue to pose environmental concerns and legal challenges.
