CANACONA: In a decisive move against illegal scrapyards operating within Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) limits, the Deputy Collector of Canacona has directed immediate action, ordering all unauthorized scrapyards to shut down operations and vacate the area within seven days.
The directive, dated April 24, 2025, comes in response to a formal complaint submitted by CMC Councillor Shubham Komarpant. The Dy. Collector, Madhu Narvekar, also instructed the Canacona Mamlatdar to conduct a thorough site inspection, verify the existence of illegal scrapyards, and submit a detailed report within a week.
The crackdown follows Komarpant’s allegation that several scrapyards previously declared closed are still operating in violation of regulations. Acting on this, the Dy. Collector has not only called for enforcement but also issued individual notices to the owners of all scrapyards within the municipal jurisdiction.
The action signals a strong message from the administration that unregulated and illegal scrapyard operations will no longer be tolerated in urban areas. The enforcement of the order will be closely monitored, with further action likely based on the Mamlatdar’s report.
