VADDEM: A three-day Craft Demonstration cum Awareness Programme (CDAP) was inaugurated at Government High School, New Vaddem, Vasco, by Panchayat and Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho. The initiative is organised by the Ministry of Textiles through the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts) and the Handicraft Service Centre, Panaji.
Addressing the gathering, Godinho urged students to work hard, saying there is no substitute for hard work and that rewards follow automatically. He encouraged them to become “shining stars” through dedication and praised the craftwork created under the guidance of artisan resource persons. He also advised teachers to nurture young talent, channel youthful energy into constructive activities, and share such initiatives on social media for wider and even international recognition.
Earlier, Dr. Saji Prabhakaran, Assistant Director, Handicrafts Service Centre, Panaji, highlighted the objectives of the awareness-cum-training programme, particularly its significance in government schools. Headmistress Namrata Satardekar proposed the vote of thanks, appreciating the Minister’s support in bringing the initiative to the institution.
The three-day event, from September 25 to 27, is aimed at promoting traditional handicrafts, creating awareness among students and the local community, and encouraging youth to help preserve India’s cultural heritage. Training sessions are being conducted by resource persons in painting, embroidery, crochet, and terracotta pottery.
The inaugural function was attended by Dabolim Mandal president Sachin Chowgule, OSD to the Minister Nehal Keni, Chicalim deputy sarpanch and Dabolim Mahila president Aishwarya Korgaonkar, and the Minister’s private secretary Marida Mesta, along with teachers and students. Senior teacher Shaikh Abdul Kader coordinated the programme.
The event will feature live craft demonstrations, interactive sessions, and awareness talks, fostering appreciation for handicrafts while strengthening market linkages for artisans.
