CANACONA: BJP’s Poinguinim Zilla Panchayat candidate Ajay (Ajit) Lolienkar has assured that providing a crematorium in every village and setting up a gaushala for stray cattle will be among his top priorities if elected.
Addressing residents during his door-to-door campaign, Lolienkar said he aims to ensure at least one crematorium in each of the four village panchayats in his constituency. He also expressed concern over the growing number of stray cattle on roads and said a gaushala is essential to provide shelter to abandoned animals and to prevent fatal road accidents.
Lolienkar, a former sarpanch and currently a panch member of Loliem-Polem village, is well known for initiating the construction of a crematorium in his home village of Loliem. He has also been actively assisting authorities in the disposal of bovine carcasses following road accidents.
“My efforts to provide basic amenities such as roads and essential infrastructure will continue,” Lolienkar said, adding that he has recently secured sanctions worth over Rs 6.6 crore for the topping of internal roads in the village.
Emphasising social harmony, he said, “There are no differences among communities here. Everyone is working together to ensure victory.”
Three campaign teams have been formed to reach voters across all four village panchayats, and according to party workers, most households have already been covered with four days of campaigning still remaining.
Meanwhile, Canacona MLA and Minister Ramesh Tawadkar, along with BJP core team members, has begun canvassing for Khola ZP candidate Tejal Pagi in Shristal and Agonda village panchayat areas. The BJP campaign in Galgibaga and Talpona areas of Poinguinim village panchayat has also received an encouraging response.
Notably, Lolienkar said he is not making individual promises but remains committed to community welfare. “A crematorium in every village is a necessity, and I will not fail on that. I also feel responsible to address the issue of stray cattle, which has led to several fatal accidents,” he added.
