According to a press note issued by SP Crime Rahul, Crime Branch Police Station had registered Crime No.120/2025 on December 6, 2025, at around 8.33 pm under Sections 125, 274, 318(4), 335, 336(2), 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act, 2023, along with Sections 30(a) and 30(b) of the Goa, Daman and Diu Excise Duty Act, 1964.
The case pertains to the illegal transportation of spurious/adulterated liquor in a truck bearing registration number MH-10-CR-1839 from Goa to an unknown destination in Belgaum. Police said the consignment was being transported without obtaining the necessary permissions from the competent authorities and without payment of mandatory government fees, thereby cheating the government of revenue and posing a serious risk to public health by endangering human life and potentially spreading infectious diseases.
In the initial action on December 6, 2025, the Crime Branch arrested accused Hussain Sab Mulla, son of Rukmuddin Mulla, a resident of Bijapur, Karnataka. During the operation, police seized 1,498 liquor boxes, 35 bags of 25 kg Asian Paints Marvelloplast, along with the truck. The total value of the seized material was estimated at approximately ₹1 crore.
Further investigation revealed that Hussain Sab Mulla had committed the offence on the directions of one Shailesh Jaywant Jadhav, a resident of Islampur, Sangli district, Maharashtra. Police said Jadhav had provided the loaded truck along with an invoice and instructed that the consignment be delivered to an unknown destination in Belgaum.
Accused Shailesh Jaywant Jadhav, who had been absconding since the commission of the offence, was finally traced and nabbed from Islampur, Sangli, Maharashtra. He was brought to the Crime Branch Police Station and formally arrested on January 26, 2026. He has been remanded to seven days of police custody.
Further investigation in the case is ongoing, police said.
