MARGAO: The Crime Branch on Friday raided an illegal gambling den at St. Jose de Areal in Salcete, arresting five people who were allegedly caught red-handed playing the card game “Syndicate Rummy.” Police said the raid was carried out in the early hours between 3.40 am and 5.40 am at House No. 726 near the railway gate in St. Jose de Areal, following a complaint filed by Police Inspector Manguesh Valvaikar of the Crime Branch Police Station, Ribandar.
The accused have been identified as Teodorio Manuel Travasso (51) of Sonum Township, St. Jose de Areal; Shrijit Tulsidas Nair (32) of Aniuman Housing Board, Navelim; Tyson Agnel Caiado (37) of Queen of Agnels Chapel, Zauri, Tiswadi; Rafik Nazeer Lohar (36) of Bhagwati Colony, Navelim; and Tosib Mehboobsab Hullur (36) of Moti Dongor, Aquem, Margao. During the house search panchanama, police seized ₹1,15,000 in cash along with other gambling articles. All five accused were placed under arrest at the scene and later released on bail. Police said all Supreme Court guidelines were followed during the operation. Inspector Manguesh Valvaikar is the investigating officer in the case.
