USGAO: In a major crackdown, the Crime Branch late last night uncovered a large-scale illegal liquor operation at a closed premises in Usgao, Ponda. Acting on a tip-off, officers seized liquor worth several lakhs of rupees, two trucks, and 29 vehicle registration number plates from various states believed to have been used to transport illicit consignments.
During the raid, police found 510 cartons containing 12 bottles each of 750ml liquor and 148 cartons carrying 40 bottles each of 180ml. The liquor, stored for illegal distribution, was promptly confiscated along with the vehicles and number plates.
Four individuals have been detained in connection with the case as investigations continue to trace the wider network behind the smuggling racket. Authorities suspect the operation was part of an inter-state bootlegging syndicate.
