Panaji: The Crime Branch, Ribandar, has registered a case under the NDPS Act and arrested one person after seizing suspected narcotic drugs from a rented room at Sanquelim in North Goa.
According to a wireless message issued by the Crime Branch, on January 30, 2026, at around 10.35 am, an offence was registered at Crime Branch Police Station vide Cr. No. 05/2026 under Section 20(b)(ii)(B) read with Section 29 of the NDPS Act, based on a state complaint filed by PI Sachin B. Lokre.
Police stated that between 3.35 am and 7.00 am on January 30, 2026, a raid was conducted at a rented room located at House No. 1509, Kelbaiwada, Upper Arvalem, Sanquelim, Bicholim. During the operation, accused Vikas Kumar alias Raghuraj Kesari, a native of Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, who was residing in the rented premises, was found to have allegedly brought flowering and fruiting tops of plants suspected to be narcotic drug ganja and conspired with another accused, Virendra, son of Ramesh Kumar.
Police said the contraband was allegedly concealed in the rented room with the intention of supplying it to prospective customers. Accused Virendra, aged 23 years, a native of Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh, and presently residing at the same rented premises, was caught red-handed while in possession of a blue polythene bag containing greenish flowering and fruiting tops suspected to be ganja.
The seized narcotic substance weighed 5.890 kilograms and, along with other articles, is estimated to be worth approximately ₹6 lakh. The seized items were attached under a search and seizure panchanama.
Accused Virendra was arrested on January 30, 2026, at 10.35 am after observing all statutory and Supreme Court guidelines. Further investigation in the case is being carried out by PI Sachin B. Lokre of the Crime Branch, Ribandar.
