MORJIM: In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Goa Police Crime Branch arrested a 34-year-old man from Odisha for illegal possession of nearly 12 kilograms of suspected Ganja near Arabian Sea Beach Resort in Morjim, Pernem.
Acting on specific and reliable intelligence received through sources, a team led by PI Kishor Ramanan, along with LPSI Pragati Malik and other officials, conducted the operation on July 11.
The accused, identified as Laxminarayan Bhimsen Dora, a native of Golapalli, Baragan, Ganjam district, Odisha, was caught red-handed with 11.914 kg of flowering and fruiting tops of a plant suspected to be Ganja, worth an estimated ₹12 lakh in the illegal market.
The seizure was made in the presence of panchas, and various other articles were also recovered from the scene.
Police confirmed that the accused has been formally arrested under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of DySP Crime Rajesh Kumar and overall supervision of SP Crime Rahul Gupta, IPS.
This arrest is part of Goa Police’s ongoing efforts to curb the narcotics trade in the state, particularly in coastal areas frequented by tourists.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining strict vigilance and taking swift action against drug-related offenses.
