CALANGUTE: Goenchi Nari Shakti and Karni Sena has filed a criminal complaint against Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira and others for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, instigating and provoking peaceful and harmonious ShivPremis as well as other members of Hindu community.
“Joseph R. Sequeira, Anny Fernandes, Savio Gonsalves passed the illegal resolution to hurt the sentiments of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj followers and instigate communal riots. Sequeira misused/misguided the Police and state administration to protect his illegal acts,” said Santoshsingh Rajput, General Secretary Karni Sena
He further alleged that Sequira bought around 10 goons in the Panchayat premises to damage govt building by pelting stones and instigated communal riots.
“Sequeira illegally closed the doors of the panchayat and hijacked the Panchayat building for one full day thereby depriving the citizens from availing facilities of the Panchayat and also caused hardships to the citizens,” he added
Karni Sena has demanded to register an FIR against the above mentioned persons and take necessary action as per provisions of IPC in the interest of justice.
A mob of about 100 people threw stones at the office of Calangute Panchayat in Goa on Tuesday after its order to remove the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj installed on the roadside.
People holding saffron flags marched towards the Panchayat office in the morning and demanded the order be withdrawn and started throwing stones.
the spot was earmarked for an electricity pole. So, the panchayat asked a local organisation to remove the statue of Shivaji Maharaj from the roadside.
Protesters demanded that the panchayat immediately withdraw this order and apologise to the people.
“We are here to protest against the order of the Calangute panchayat. Shivaji Maharaj is an inspiration to everyone irrespective of religious beliefs,” said a protestor.
