PANAJI: In the wake of a tragic stampede at the Lairai Zatra, Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane confirmed that 30 casualties have been reported, prompting a swift and coordinated emergency response from state health services.
Of the 30 affected individuals, 8 are in critical condition — including two who are intubated — and have been shifted to Goa Medical College (GMC) for advanced care. Four individuals (two male, two female) were declared brought in dead. Eight patients have been admitted to Asilo Hospital, while 10 are being treated for minor injuries. Two patients have already been discharged, while 10 remain under close observation in the casualty ward at GMC.
“We have taken immediate and comprehensive steps to manage the situation,” said Rane. “Five ambulances were dispatched to the site and three more kept on standby. Additional medical personnel have been deployed, and a dedicated ICU with ventilator support has been activated.”
To bolster the response, ten advanced 108 ambulances have been mobilized for patient transfers and on-ground medical support. Health infrastructure across GMC and district hospitals remains on high alert, with a 24/7 emergency helpline — 104 — now operational for public assistance.
Medical Superintendents of GMC and Asilo have been designated as nodal officers to oversee the response and ensure real-time coordination. “We are monitoring every patient’s condition closely and are committed to providing the highest level of care during this difficult time,” Rane added.
