Curtorim: Cumborda Sports Club delivered a dominant performance to outclass Jolly Boys of Sinaibhag 5-1 and seal their spot in the quarterfinals of the 2nd Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament, organized by Black Arrow Boys Agxem Sports Club. The match was played at St. Alex Church Ground, Curtorim.
Despite heavy rainfall making playing conditions challenging, Cumborda SC adapted quickly and opened their account in the 5th minute with a spectacular 30-yard curler from Mackson that crashed into the net. Mackson doubled the lead in the 25th minute, giving Cumborda a strong 2-0 advantage at halftime. Sinaibhag came close to scoring when Anthony Cardozo narrowly missed the target, his shot sailing just over the crossbar.
In the second half, Sinaibhag showed some attacking intent, with Ryan Rodrigues unleashing a powerful shot from the right flank, but Cumborda goalkeeper Jhonson Bogot made a crucial save to punch it out for a corner.
Cumborda continued their dominance and added three more goals through Rio (40′), Roy (49′), and Alvito (52′), putting the result beyond doubt. Sinaibhag managed to pull one back in the 60th minute with a fine header from Gilbert Pereira.
For his two-goal performance and overall impact on the field, Mackson of Cumborda SC was named Man of the Match. The award was presented by Piedade Paes, a passionate supporter of Goan football.
