MARGAO: Cumborda Sports Club emerged champions of the 1st Caniza Peixoto Memorial Football Tournament Org by Agxem Sports Club and played at St.Alex Church ground by defeating Damdolem Sports Club 3-1,
The finals began on a promising note despite heavy rains, the enthusiastic 800 fans remained intact on the ground to watch the finals
Cumborda sports had the upper hand and three goals in a full session of play.
Macson Fernandes opened the scoreline for Cumborda SC and before the half time Milroy hilario equalise for Damdolems and remained on 1-1draw at the half time
Changing over Damdolems tried to come back but couldn’t do so as their forward couldn’t capitalise on chances they got and Cumborda scored two quick goals through James Fernandes and Balsan Fernandes to seal the fate of Damdolems and win 1st Caniza Peixoto memorial finals.
Alex Reginald Lourenco MLA of Curtorim and GIDC chairman was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Michelle Rebello ZP Curtorim, Fr. Manuel Dias, Fr. Milagres Dias, Fr. Michael Fernandes, Conceicao Dias, Tyson Caido, Jasmila ferrao Panch member and other dignitaries, Family of late Caniza Peixoto Cony Peixeto and club officials were present.
