Margao: Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao on Thursday carried out an inspection of the Police Out Post at Chandor to build a proposed full-fledged police station in its place.
Speaking to the media, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao said that he had proposed this police station to give better facilities to locals and address the growing crime rate. “Nowadays, the crime rate has increased in Goa. It was shocking to see that some miscreants dared to break open four shops in the heart of Panaji city. Not only in cities, but robbers are targeting houses and shops in villages also. This is one of the reasons why there was a need of a full-fledged police station in Chandor, which is our heritage village,” Alemao said.
He said that people were forced to travel to Maina-Curtorim police station to lodge complaints, which is almost eight to nine kilometres away.
“In the absence of a full-fledged police station, people were sent to Maina Curtorim police station from Police Out Post. This practice is wasting the time and money of locals. Hence there was an absolute need for this police station,” Alemao pointed out.
“The goal is to establish a comprehensive law enforcement facility that meets community needs. This development will fulfil another long-held aspiration of the locals, whilst Chandor’s transforming into a heritage village,” he said.
Alemao was accompanied by officials and local stakeholders, while inspecting Police Out Post at Chandor in Cuncolim constituency, which lacks in facilities.
Cuncolim MLA Alemao said that he will try to complete this project at earliest and has already directed officials to pace the formalities.
