CUNCOLIM: In a major crackdown on illegal liquor production, Cuncolim Police seized an Eicher truck loaded with 458 cartons of adulterated liquor valued at approximately ₹57.15 lakh during a raid conducted near Pires Wine Store, Power House, IDC Cuncolim, on November 7, 2025.
The raid was carried out by a police team led by PSI Aditya Sawant of Cuncolim Police Station, following a tip-off received from PCR Panaji at around 4:51 pm.
During the operation, the police apprehended one accused, Ramesh Kumar Prajapat, while other unidentified accomplices managed to flee. The accused, along with others, allegedly illegally manufactured 3,957.12 litres of liquor (458 cartons of 180 ml bottles each) branded as “Evergreen Reserve Whiskey”.
The liquor was reportedly being transported for illegal distribution and human consumption without obtaining permissions from the concerned authorities or paying requisite government duties. Police said the adulterated liquor posed a serious risk to public health and cheated the government of revenue.
The Eicher truck and liquor stock were attached under a panchanama, and further investigation has been handed over to PSI Sudan Bhosale of Cuncolim Police Station.
Authorities suspect a larger network involved in the illicit trade, and efforts are on to trace the remaining accused.
