PONDA: The underpass below the Curti-Khandepar to Ponda four-lane highway has become an illegal vendors’ paradise, which poses a huge risk of accidents.
Besides using an underpass for vending, all the vacant areas are used for unauthorised parking of vehicles.
The underpass is for the safety of locals; however, migrant vendors have made it a hot spot for business.
Meanwhile, today in gram sabha, the illegal vending issue was discussed, wherein panch member Bika Kerkar declared that roadside vending is illegal and it’s the responsibility of PWD to clear encroachment once locals have complained to these authorities.
Curti locals demanded action against illegal vending below the underpass at Curti.
According to locals, the underpass is located near Sports Complex Junction and used by locals proceeding towards Curti Panchayat Office as well as the electricity department; however, nowadays, there is a rush of vendors at the underpass for selling various kinds of goods and fruits. The underpass is also used for parking, posing a risk of accidents to motorists and pedestrians.
