PANAJI: On Friday, at the DYSA ground in Curtorim, the Simon Barreto Memorial inter-village football tournament witnessed a nail-biting pre-quarterfinal match between Curtorim Gymkhana and United Boys of Ambaulim. The game, organized by Maina Sports Club, ended in a 0-0 stalemate after regular time, setting the stage for a dramatic tiebreaker.
In the tiebreaker, Curtorim Gymkhana demonstrated exceptional precision, converting all eight of their penalties. The successful penalty takers included Freddy Hilario, Ryan Fernandes, Frazer Fernandes, Rhay Dias, Floyd Antao, Afileo Fernandes, Mario Mascarenhas, and Anslem Fernandes. Despite a strong effort from United Boys of Ambaulim, with Sowell Fernandes, Jesus Fernandes, Visiton Fernandes, Selton Fernandes, Anthony Fernandes, Selwyn Fernandes, and Teron Fernandes all scoring, they fell short with a total of 7 penalties.
