CURTORIM: A 20 September phishing scam left a Curtorim resident poorer by ₹1 lakh after she unknowingly installed a fraudulent APK file that gave hackers full access to her phone and bank accounts.
According to the complaint filed by Latoya Krita Sequeira Carvalho, her husband had forwarded her an APK link that appeared to be related to the Parivahan app.
When she clicked on the file around 6:36 pm, an unknown accused reportedly gained access to her device.
The hacker then allegedly carried out two unauthorised transactions — ₹50,000 from her Bank of Baroda savings account and another ₹50,000 from her State Bank of India savings account — both used to purchase Amazon Pay gift vouchers.
Police said the case involves fraudulent online manipulation and unauthorised account access. The investigation is being conducted by PI Arun Gauns Dessai of Maina–Curtorim Police Station.
