PANAJI: Congress Media Chairperson Amarnath Panjikar on Sunday slammed the BJP for celebrating the birthday of its State President Damu Naik inside a temple, terming it an “insult to Sanatan Dharma” and demanding an unconditional apology.
“BJP speaks loudly about Sanatan Dharma but fails to practise it. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not get tonsured after the death of his mother Heeraba Modi. Cutting a birthday cake inside a temple, in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and other BJP leaders, is an outright insult to Dharma,” Panjikar alleged.
He said temples are sacred spaces of prayer and devotion, not venues for birthdays or political gimmicks. “This itself proves that BJP uses religious places for its political gains. Shame on such low-level politics,” he added.
Panjikar accused the BJP of hypocrisy, claiming the party “falsely projects itself as the guardian of Hindutva” while desecrating the sanctity of Hindu Dharma.
“By turning a holy place into a stage for cheap celebration, BJP has deeply hurt the faith of crores of devotees. This is not devotion, this is adharm — an unholy act that cannot and will not be forgiven,” he said.
The Congress leader demanded a public apology from BJP and its State President, warning that Hindus in Goa and across India “will not tolerate repeated assaults on their Dharma.”
