PANAJI: Goa Police has registered 106 cases pertaining to cybercrimes involving unauthorized bank transfer and gpay/paytm/UPI transfers registered for the period from year 2021 to 2023.
“The cases pertaining to cybercrimes involving unauthorized bank transfer and gpay/paytm/UPI transfers registered for the period from year 2021 to 2023 are 106. In 2021, there were 21 cases, in 2022 it was 70 and 2023 up till March 13, it was 13,” said CM Sawant
He further said that it is not true to say that Police do not register complaints of cybercrimes. Whenever any complaint is received at the Police Station prompt action is taken and offence is registered under the appropriate provisions of law.
Refusing to furnish the copy of the complaints and chargesheet, CM said the same cannot be furnished as the matter is presently under investigation/ enquiry/ Pending Trial.
“Moreover, it may contravene with the functioning/ provisions of law. It may also hamper the process of investigation or prosecution of the offenders,” he added
“Geographical anonymity and those staying out of India make it very difficult to track and arrest criminals. However, our detection rate is 35 per cent, which is good compared to the overall rate of detection,” the SP said
“Cyber Crime along with other police stations has covered 25,000 students of Goa for cyber awareness. 573 complaints have been received on cyber crime helpline 1930. We have been able to save Rs 20 lakh,” SP Valsan stated.
In December 2013, the state government had granted permission to set up a cyber crime cell (CCC) in the state and recruitment of technical persons for the same. One year later, the government declared the cell as police station exclusively for investigating cyber crimes.
