PANAJI: The Cyber Crime Police Station, Goa, has arrested an individual for downloading and viewing obscene material in electronic form depicting children engaged in sexual acts and for failing to report the same to the concerned authorities.
According to a press note issued by the Cyber Crime Police, an offence was registered on January 15, 2026, under Crime No. 01/2026 at the Cyber Crime Police Station under Section 67-B of the Information Technology Act and Section 15(1) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, based on a state complaint.
Police stated that on October 26, 2025, the accused, allegedly downloaded and viewed child sexual abuse material in electronic form using his mobile phone, email ID, and Instagram account. The material reportedly depicted children engaged in sexual acts in a manner that could offend a reasonable adult. The accused also failed to report the matter to the concerned authorities, as mandated under law.
Following an in-depth technical investigation, the accused was traced to Saligao in North Goa. A police team led by PC Ibrahim Karol and PC Ashish Naik, under the supervision of SP Rahul Gupta, IPS, ASP Smt. B. V. Shridevi, IPS, and PI Deepak Pednekar of the Cyber Crime Police Station, Goa, arrested the accused.
The accused is a native of Kuvar Bajar, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
Further investigation in the case is in progress under the supervision of PI Deepak Pednekar, Cyber Crime Police Station, Goa.
