PANAJI: In a significant breakthrough, the Cyber Crime Police Station in Ribandar, Goa, arrested a 42-year-old man from Gujarat for allegedly attempting to trade sensitive personal data through online platforms while using cryptocurrency to obscure the transactions.
The accused, identified as Vishal Gohil, a resident of Ahmedabad, was apprehended on June 4 in Calangute, North Goa, following a coordinated operation led by cyber crime officials.
The arrest stems from a complaint filed by PSI Navin Naik, prompting the registration of an FIR (No. 29/2025) under Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Gohil had been attempting to procure and sell confidential personal data via encrypted communication platforms such as Telegram, receiving payments in cryptocurrency to evade detection and mask the financial trail.
The operation was spearheaded by PSI Sarvesh Sawant, PSI Navin Naik, PC Devendra Cuncolikar, and LPC Sneha Chari, under the supervision of PI Deepak Pednekar, ASP Akshat Ayush, and SP Rahul Gupta, IPS.
Authorities are currently investigating the extent of the data breach, tracking financial transactions, and working to identify potential accomplices and platforms involved in the crime.
The Goa Police emphasized its ongoing commitment to safeguarding citizens’ digital rights and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious cyber activity or data misuse. Concerns can be reported directly to the Cyber Crime Police Station, Ribandar, or via the national Cyber Crime Helpline 1930.
