Panaji: Goa has witnessed a sharp rise in cybercrime cases, with 108 FIRs registered for offences such as online harassment, social media hacking, and cyberbullying from 2024 till June 30, 2025, Chief Minister and Home Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant informed the Legislative Assembly.
Responding to a question by Margao MLA Digambar Kamat, the Chief Minister stated that 35 FIRs were filed in 2024, and 50 more were registered in the first half of 2025.
Additionally, the state received 78 complaints related to financial cybercrimes involving UPI-based money thefts—20 in 2024 and 58 in 2025 (up to June). The status of these complaints and case progress details were submitted in annexures.
On the issue of accessibility, the government said that no complaint had been received regarding difficulties faced by South Goa residents in accessing the Cybercrime Police Station at Ribandar. It also clarified that all police stations in Goa are equipped to handle cybercrime cases and that only specific cases are transferred to the cybercrime unit.
