Chicalim Youth Farmers club ( CYFC ) , a group of over 100 youth from different parts of Goa assembled at Chicalim Panchayat adressed media opposing the three linear projects of double tracking, expansion of national highway and transmission of power lines through Western Ghats . CYFC said that they will gather the youth from all Goa to voice their concerns against the message because they felt cheated. CYFC said that they will be forced to come on the roads in agitation and not support the government in the upcoming elections. CYFC Demanded an assembly to discuss the three projects and offer more clarity .
Speaking on the occasion Valerie Alphonso said that the three projects were destructive in nature. Alphonso said that all the three projects were linked to coal transportation . Alphonso said that the power transmission lines were meant to power trains carrying coal along the elevated castle rock region .
Another youth Neola Pereira said that Sagarmala project initially had assured that a lot of jobs were to be given to youth but the projects taken were destructive in nature and hence were opposed by the youth. Pereira said that the government must not lie to the youth and withdraw the project and also the land acquisition in velsao. Pereira also demanded that the RPF police deployed be withdrawn .
Mauvin Pereira speaking to media said that the youth had met the power minister Nilesh Cabral and they were allegedly threatened and informed that the youth would not be given Government jobs, cases would be registered and their passports would be held back . Pereira said that the youth will not fall prey to such threats and continue to oppose the projects for the love of their land.
Another youth Conchita Moteiro said that the youth had been terribly hurt with the Government and that SBI bank had begun financing the coal projects despite previous cases of people looting and leaving India with crores of rupees
Another youth Maxson Fernandes from Davorlim said that the Railway police had begun filing cases on people and questioned why the government had no faith on Goa police .Fernandes said that during elections the ministers had asked the youth to participate but during such times, the government would file reports on the youth by bringing police from outside the state
