New Delhi: A delegation led by Goa Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho, along with Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade, called on Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi to discuss key issues concerning Goa, with special focus on the continued operations and future expansion of Dabolim International Airport.
During the meeting, the delegation submitted a detailed representation underlining the strategic and economic importance of Dabolim Airport to the state. The representation highlighted the airport’s vital role in ensuring connectivity, supporting tourism, generating employment and sustaining Goa’s overall economic growth.
Addressing the issue, Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said, “Dabolim International Airport has been the backbone of Goa’s air connectivity for decades. It continues to play a critical role in tourism, trade and employment. Any plan for Goa’s development must ensure its unhindered operations along with necessary infrastructure augmentation.”
Godinho stressed that the airport remains indispensable for residents, tourists and businesses alike, and emphasized the need for continued support from the Union Government to strengthen and modernise its facilities in line with growing demand.
The Defence Minister was also apprised of the concerns of various stakeholders and the need to safeguard Dabolim’s future while complementing Goa’s overall aviation growth. The delegation sought his intervention and support to ensure that expansion plans move forward smoothly without affecting civilian flight operations.
