Dabolim: PWD Minister Digambar Kamat said that the much-awaited Dabolim flyover project is likely to be completed by December, following a joint review meeting held in the constituency along with Minister Mauvin Godinho to address long-pending infrastructure and road-related issues.
Kamat was speaking to reporters after the meeting, which was held in the presence of newly elected Zilla Panchayat member Sunil Gawas and other local representatives. The discussions focused on ongoing and proposed Public Works Department (PWD) works in Dabolim, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) flyover project, and road issues under Zilla Panchayat jurisdiction in Sancoale.
The PWD Minister said he had visited Dabolim at the request of Minister Mauvin Godinho to personally review several pending works. “Many projects have already commenced, while estimates for some others have been prepared. I have assured that approvals will be granted within eight days so that these works can also begin without delay,” Kamat said.
Referring specifically to the Dabolim flyover, Kamat said detailed discussions were held with NHAI officials and the contractor. “Several practical solutions to ease public inconvenience have been worked out. The contractor has been directed to complete the project by December 2026 and has been given a clear target. With road diversions now in place, the contractor has informed us that work can proceed smoothly and that a major stretch can be completed by May,” he said, while crediting Minister Mauvin Godinho for extending full support, particularly in facilitating traffic diversions.
Minister Mauvin Godinho, addressing the media, said residents had been facing difficulties due to road-related issues and ongoing works in the area. “We had earlier discussed these problems with the PWD Minister and planned diversions to allow the contractor to speed up the flyover work. Despite several constraints, service roads on both sides of the project were made possible following the PWD Minister’s directions,” he said.
Godinho said the flyover is crucial for easing traffic congestion in Dabolim and stressed that diversions were permitted with clear conditions. “The contractor has been informed in the presence of the PWD Minister that these diversions are temporary and the work on this stretch must be completed by December so that people are not inconvenienced for long. The work is progressing in full swing, and we are confident the project will be completed within the stipulated time,” he added.
The Dabolim MLA also referred to assurances given during the recent Zilla Panchayat elections. “While canvassing for our candidate Sunil Gawas, people demanded concrete solutions to road problems. I had assured them that I would personally bring the PWD Minister to the area to resolve these issues. I am satisfied that the commitment made to the people is being honoured,” Godinho said.
He further said that Kamat has assured priority to road works in Sancoale and Zuarinagar, with fixed timelines, in the presence of ZP member Sunil Gawas, Sancoale Panch Girish Pillai and others. “Road works will now move forward in both Dabolim and Sancoale, bringing much-needed relief to residents,” Godinho said.
