Fatorda: The eighth edition of the Akhil Gomantakiya Daivadnya Brahmin Youth Association’s Daivadnya Cricket Cup 2026 concluded on January 18 at the S.A.G ground, Fatorda, following a two-day tournament that saw participation from teams across Goa.
The concluding ceremony was attended by Dr Geeta Nagvenkar, Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, as the chief guest, while Dr Chitra D. Lotlikar, a general medicine practitioner, was the guest of honour.
National weightlifting champion Sakshi Haldankar was felicitated with the Daivadnya Sports Achiever Award in recognition of her achievements.
A total of 17 teams took part in the tournament, including two women’s teams and two children’s teams. AGDBYA president Seema Rohit Vernekar welcomed the guests and briefed them on the association’s sports, social and community initiatives undertaken throughout the year. Addressing the gathering, Dr Nagvenkar appreciated the association for organising the event professionally.
The prize distribution ceremony was attended by over 200 people. In the men’s category, Shree Bodgeshwar emerged as champions, while Vernekar Warriors finished runners-up. Amrut Verlekar was named Man of the Series and Best Batsman, while Siddhesh Vernekar received the Best Bowler award. Atharv Verlekar was adjudged Man of the Match in the final, Mahendra Karekar won the Best Catch award, and Amrut Verlekar also received the award for maximum sixes. Sahil Verlekar was named Emerging Player.
In the women’s category, Super Strikers won the title, while Dakshin Warriors finished as runners-up. Nishita Pednekar was named Player of the Match. Royal 11 emerged winners in the children’s category.
The programme was compered by Aishani Lotlikar and Dr Rajvi Lotlikar, while AGDBYA secretary Sampada Nagvekar proposed the vote of thanks.
