MARGAO: State BJP president Damu Naik has urged party workers to intensify preparations for the Assembly elections scheduled in early 2027, while warning that internal discord within the party could undermine its electoral prospects.
Addressing party functionaries at the BJP South district office on the occasion of completing one year as State party president, Naik said the Assembly election was “just a year away” and called upon the rank and file to move into election mode without delay.
While acknowledging the efforts of party workers in successfully implementing organisational and public outreach programmes over the past year, Naik cautioned against complacency and factionalism. He said that petty disputes and lack of unity among workers only strengthen the opposition.
Naik pointed out that despite the BJP maintaining a continuous presence on the ground and engaging with people throughout the year, opposition parties often mobilise only close to elections and still manage to secure a significant number of votes. He stressed that BJP workers must remain vigilant and active at all times to counter this trend.
Referring to upcoming political challenges, the BJP president said the party faces crucial tests in the municipal elections and the Ponda by-election, and appealed to workers to put in sustained effort to ensure victory, particularly to retain the Ponda seat.
Admitting that internal infighting had cost the party dearly in the recently held Zilla Panchayat elections, Naik said some BJP candidates had lost by narrow margins due to lack of coordination among party workers. He claimed the party had inputs suggesting that the opposition benefitted directly from these internal rifts.
Calling for unity, Naik urged party workers to close ranks and work collectively, stating that only a united organisation could fulfil the larger national vision articulated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
