Majorda: The deteriorating condition of internal roads in Majorda, located in the Nuvem constituency, has raised serious safety concerns among residents and commuters. Deep potholes, narrow road stretches, and roadside boulders are turning daily travel into a hazardous experience, with a rising number of accidents reported in recent weeks.
Highlighting the issue, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Brian and Pioto Kevin visited the affected areas and criticised the state government for its apathy. “These roads are snatching away the dreams and lives of Goans,” they said, urging authorities to treat the matter as a humanitarian crisis rather than a political issue. They warned that continued inaction could lead to more tragic incidents, for which the government would be directly responsible.
A particularly dangerous stretch involves a dug-up lane that has reduced the road width to a single risky passage. This forces oncoming vehicles to swerve dangerously close to each other, increasing the likelihood of head-on collisions. Large boulders placed on the roadside further compromise safety, especially for two-wheeler riders navigating at night or during the monsoon season.
Residents have also expressed anger and frustration, claiming that their repeated complaints have fallen on deaf ears. Despite multiple accidents and near misses, no significant repair or maintenance work has been undertaken.
The AAP leaders called for immediate road repairs in Majorda and emphasised that public safety must be prioritised over political calculations. They reiterated that proper infrastructure is not a luxury but a basic right that every citizen deserves.
