DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday attacked Congress over Rs 5000 crore Delhi drug bust “kingpin” Tushar Goyal’s link with the opposition party, saying it is dangerous and shameful.
However, Congress has denied any link with Goyal and informed that he was expelled from the party two years ago.
In a post on X, Shah said Congress wants to push youth into drugs but his government has pledged to make India a drug-free country.
“While on one hand the Modi Government is adopting a zero tolerance policy for ‘Drug Free India’, the involvement of a prominent Congress leader in the Rs 5,600 crore drug consignment seized from North India is extremely dangerous and shameful. Everyone has seen the plight of youth in Punjab, Haryana and entire North India due to drugs during the rule of Congress. While the Modi government is taking the youth towards sports, education and innovation, the Congress wants to take them into the dark world of drugs.”
“The sin of Congress leaders of using their political influence to push the youth into the quagmire of drugs will never be allowed to be fulfilled by the Modi government. Our government is determined to make India a ‘drug-free country’ by destroying the entire drug network, without looking at the political position or stature of the drug dealers,” he wrote.
Tushar Goyal, the alleged ‘kingpin’, was arrested along with three others on Wednesday after the Delhi police seized over 560 kg of cocaine and 40 kg of marijuana in a raid in the Mahipalpur area of south Delhi.
The estimated value of the drugs is worth to be around Rs 5,620 crore. Police has also said that Goyal, a resident of Vasant Vihar, owned the warehouse where the drugs were found.
The BJP had earlier claimed that the arrested ‘kingpin’ in one of the largest drug busts in the national capital is linked to the Congress party. They alleged that the arrested suspect is the chairman of Delhi Youth Congress’ RTI cell. In response, the youth wing of Indian National Congress (INC) strongly denied these allegations, saying that the BJP is misleading the public with “lies and deception.”
