PANAJI: Darsh Pai notched twin victories in the ongoing state-ranking TNS PG Open Tennis tournament at the Panjim Gymkhana on Friday, defeating Kyan Mavany (6-3) in the boys’ under-18 years category while also brushing aside the challenge by Devansh Naik (6-0) in the boys’ under-14 years category.
With the two convincing victories, Pai has reached the semi-finals in both categories.
Mavany’s solid forehand has, however ensured his entry in the semi-finals of the boys’ under-14 years category with his win over Noah Carvalho.
Kabir Gadre also made an easy meal of opponent Gaurang Nerulkar (6-1) to move into the semi-finals of the boys’ under-18 years grouping.
In the girl’s under-18 years event, Tithee Bhoomkar swept away her opponent Mahi Singh (6-0), while Vidhi beat Anika (6-2), to reach the event’s semi-finals.
The fresh round of men’s singles matches got off to a great start with impressive gameplay and notable sportsmanship. In the pre-quarters, Tejas Shevde defeated Jai Gill (6-3), while Pankaj vanquished Kishore with an impressive (6-0) victory. Later in the day, Tejas continued his winning streak by defeating Pankaj (6-0), qualifying for the semi-finals.
Nearly 140 Tennis players across eleven categories are participating in the state ranking Tennis tournament.
The tournament, which is co-organised by the Goa State Tennis Association and the Panjim Gymkhana, is critical for Goan professional Tennis players keen on enhancing their state ranking.
