PANAJI: Darwin Barreto and DattaPrasad Parab emerged Veterans (Men’s 40+) Doubles champions of the All Goa Badminton tournament organised by Sanquelim Shuttlers in collaboration with the Goa Badminton Association at Sanquelim.
Mustafa Abdulla and Nitin Mayekar secured the Runner’s spot after going down 15-9, 9-15, and 10-15 in a thrilling final. Vinod Palkar / Sanjib Hazra and Dr Vishwanath Marathe / Rohidas Ghadi, who had bowed out in the semi-finals, emerged as joint third-place winners. Over 50 players from across Goa participated in the day-long tournament. Darwin Barreto, who had consistently performed well throughout the tournament, was awarded the coveted title of ‘Player of the Tournament’.
The tournament’s opening ceremony was held in the presence of Yeshwant Desai, the President of Sanquelim Shuttlers, and the executive committee of Sanquelim Shuttlers. The closing ceremony was graced by Shyam Pednekar, the President of the Lions Club of Sanquelim.
Speaking on occasion, Yeshwant Desai, President Sanquelim Shuttlers said, “We are committed to the upliftment of badminton across Goa, partnering with the endeavour of GBA. I am extremely delighted to see such an overwhelming participation from veteran badminton players from across the Goa state, and I congratulate all the participants.”
Sandeep Heble, Secretary Goa Badminton Association, said, “We are pleased to collaborate with Sanquelim Shuttlers for this Veterans doubles Badminton tournament. This tournament is yet another step in our endeavour to enhance the reach of badminton across Goa in all age categories.”
