PANAJI: Dattaprasad Naik has alleged that Minister Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate and his associates are attempting to pressure candidates from the Ami Panjekar panel to withdraw from the upcoming Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) elections, even claiming that threats have been issued in some cases.
Naik claimed that efforts are being made to influence the election process by misusing government machinery, with attempts reportedly underway to force nearly 12 candidates contesting from various wards in Panaji to pull out of the race.
Describing the situation as serious, Naik urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to intervene and ensure that the elections are conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
He also stated that a formal complaint will be submitted to the State Election Commission regarding the alleged pressure tactics.
The CCP elections are scheduled to take place on March 11, with multiple panels contesting across the city’s wards.
