Navelim: The State Junior Basketball Championships 2025 witnessed dominant performances as DBO Fatorda, DBO Panjim A, Sonics, and NCS Vasco secured their places in the semi-finals. The tournament is currently underway at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium in Navelim and is being organised by the Panjim Basketeers Club under the aegis of the Goa Basketball Association (GBA) and the Sports Authority of Goa.
The championship also serves as a crucial selection platform for Goa’s Junior Boys and Girls teams ahead of the upcoming 75th Junior Nationals scheduled to be held in Ludhiana this September.
The tournament tipped off with a strong showing from Lourdes Basketball Club, who trounced Ponda Basketball Club 56-9 in the Round of 16. Benson Fernandes starred in the encounter with 13 points and was adjudged MVP.
In the quarter-finals, DBO Fatorda showcased their strength with a 31-4 win over DBO Panjim B. Jude Fernandes led the charge with 11 points and was named MVP, while David Xavier contributed 7 points. Sonics put on an impressive display to beat Sunshine Worldwide School 39-17, thanks to key performances from Daniel Saji (10 points, MVP) and Daniel Rodrigues (7 points).
In a closely contested battle, NCS Vasco edged out Lourdes BC 22-18, with Abhinav Singh emerging as the match-winner, scoring 14 points and earning the MVP title. DBO Panjim A delivered a commanding performance with a 58-11 victory over Brown Ballers. Kevin De Souza led the scoring with 17 points and was named MVP.
With the semi-finals set, the stage is now set for thrilling matchups as the top four teams vie for a spot in the state finals.
