MARGAO: Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda defeated Parish Youth Nuvem by a 1-0 goal to enter into the finals of the 13th Cana Benaulim Panchayat Cup football tournament played at St John de Baptista football ground, Benaulim.
DBO were at the receiving end to the major part of the match but managed to get the all important goal through Clencio Pinto in the 6th minute. PY Nuvem showed a lot of aggression with their striker Shenoy Colaco and Joywin Costa harassing the rival defense. Joywin Costa almost got the opening goal in the 16th minute but his close-range shot deflected off Fatorda goalkeeper Karol Soares and went out. Fatorda survived a close scare when Frazer Miranda’s header sailed inches over the crosspiece.
DBO were a transformed side after the restart with Joel Colaco and Clencio Pinto working hard. Fatorda surged ahead in the 49th minute when PY Nuvem skipper and stopper back Richard Fernandes carelessly pushed a forward pass which was intercepted by Clensio Pinto and as the striker was about to take a shot Richard deliberately pushed the ball out with his hand promptly referee David Rebello to immediately point to the dreaded spot and flashed the Red Card to Richard. Clencio easily converted the spot kick to give Fatorda the lead.
Down by a goal and a one-man shot Nuvem tried hard but were outnumbered by the deternmineFatorda lads. Nuvem got a fine chance in the dying minutes but Francis Colaco’s shot was blocked by Joel Colaco. Joel Colaco of Don Bosco Ftorda was adjudged as Man of the Match.
