PORVORIM: Police received a call from PCR Panjim at 1.05 pm on January 28, 2026, reporting that a person staying in a house near Copperleaf, Porvorim, was not responding and that a strong foul smell was emanating from the premises.
Acting on the information, PSI Sachin Shirodkar, along with police staff, rushed to the spot and found a male lying in a highly decomposed state inside the house. Police said the body was in an advanced stage of decomposition, with skin peeled off at various parts of the body.
The deceased was later identified by Shripad Haldankar as his cousin brother Sushant Haldankar (54), a government servant working with the Sports Department, residing near Chubby Cheeks School, beside Copperleaf Hotel, Porvorim, North Goa.
Enquiry revealed that the deceased was staying alone at the residence. The cousin further informed police that the deceased was mentally unstable, officials said.
Police conducted the scene of occurrence panchanama and inquest panchanama, and the body was sent for post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
The case is being investigated by PSI Sachin Shirodkar.
