PANAJI: In a proud moment for Goa, a Goan short film “Wagro” (Place of Sacrifice) has been officially accepted in the Short Film Corner category at the prestigious Festival de Cannes 2022. The Short Film Corner aims to promote emerging talents and facilitate the interactions between the creation and the industry.
Short Film Corner picks the most promising short films coming from all around the world to elaborate a curated Market Catalogue following the expectation of the industry decision-makers.
Wagro is a love story of a couple trapped in the circumstances trying to find where they belong and want to belong. The story, screenplay and direction of the short film are by Sainath S. Uskaikar. Currently studying at the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune, he is an engineer by qualification from Goa, India. The film is produced by two time National Award winner De Goan Studio headed by Rajesh R. Pednekar and Gayatri Pednekar. The sound design and mixing of the film are done by four times national award-winning sound designer Bishwadeep Dipak Chatterjee.
Two times Kerala state award winner Liju Prabhakar from Kerala is associated with the short film as a colourist.
The team includes cinematographer Amey Simepurushkar, Editor Venkatesh Lagji and the Background music by Abhishek Kadam. The cast consists of Sobita Kudtarkar, Shravan Fondekar, Pranav Tengse and Amodi Sanap.
The Director of the film Sainath Uskaikar said that he dedicates this short film selection to my mother, Sukanya Uskaikar.
“I thank all my producers, caste, technical team for this success,” he said.
“This remarkable achievement of a Goan short film will boost the Goan film fraternity. It will motivate young and talented filmmakers to express better stories with a universal appeal. That was our endeavour, and we are extremely honoured that the film has been accepted by the prestigious Cannes”, said Rajesh R. Pednekar.
