New Delhi: Indian boxers delivered a strong performance at the Thailand Open 2025, finishing the tournament with a total of eight medals, including two golds clinched by Deepak and Naman Tanwar in their respective weight categories.
Deepak secured gold in the men’s 75kg category with a dominant 5:0 victory over Uzbekistan’s Abdurakhimov Javokhir. In the 90kg final, Naman Tanwar edged out China’s Han Xuezhen with a 4:1 scoreline to take the top spot on the podium.
In the women’s division, Kiran put up a spirited fight in the 80kg final but narrowly lost 2:3 to Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova, settling for silver.
Five other Indian boxers earned bronze medals: Tamanna (51kg), Priya (57kg), Sanju (60kg), Saneh (70kg), and Lalfakmawii Ralte (80kg), all of whom showcased strong performances to finish on the podium.
“This result is a clear sign that the systems we’ve put in place are working,” said Ajay Singh, Chairman of the Boxing Federation of India’s Interim Committee. “As we now shift focus to the second leg of the World Cup in Kazakhstan, we carry forward this momentum and belief. The goal is clear—keep building, keep performing, and keep raising the bar.”
India had sent a 19-member squad to the tournament, which featured tough competition from boxing heavyweights such as China, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, South Korea, and host nation Thailand.
Earlier this year, India claimed six medals, including one gold, at the World Boxing Cup in Brazil. With the second leg of the World Cup set to take place later this month in Kazakhstan, Indian boxers will look to continue their strong run. The World Boxing Cup Finals are scheduled to be held in New Delhi later this year.
