PONDA: Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik today said Defence Ministry should consider handover the remaining portion of Kranti Maidan to Ponda PMC.
He was speaking today after offering a floral tribute to Martyr’s memorial at Kranti Maidan Ponda on 18 June Revolution Day. Present were Sports Minister Govind Gaude, freedom fighters, officials, citizens and students.
Ravi Naik said Revolution started from Ponda and then from Margao.
He said several freedom fighters sacrificed life for Goa liberation.
“We can’t forget freedom fighters and their sacrifice. Goa small state, saw development after liberation. If all religion cames together, we can see more development. The central govt contributed to the development of Goa,” he said.
Ravi Naik further said in 1991, When he was CM of Goa, he went to Delhi and discussed the Krantimaidan land issue with then defence Minister Sharad Pawar and General Rodrigues, following which Defence Ministry returned back part of Kranti Maidan land to PMC. However, still significant portion of Kranti Maidan land lies with Defence Ministry should consider returning back remaining piece of land to Ponda Municipal Council. He said Army should consider returning the land to PMC.
After democracy was established in Portugal its President Mario Soares came to Goa and visited Kranti Maidan.
“We need to Preserve Krantimaidan. PM Narendra Modi provided vaccination and saved the life of Indians, and even supplied it to the foreign countries. Today PM Modhi have respect all over the world, and We need to strengthen his hands for better prospects,” he aaid.
