COLLEM: Residents of Collem have expressed strong resentment over the prolonged delay in completing the Primary Health Centre (PHC), after the death of a youth reportedly highlighted the absence of immediate medical facilities in the area. The incident has renewed demands from locals for the long-pending project to be completed without further delay.
Villagers said the youth allegedly suffered a cardiac emergency and had to be rushed to a distant hospital due to the non-availability of a functional health centre in Collem. According to locals, the lack of timely treatment has raised serious concerns about healthcare access in the region and intensified public anger over the stalled project.
The PHC construction has remained incomplete for nearly eight years, forcing residents from Collem and surrounding areas to depend on medical facilities located far away. Locals stated that repeated appeals have been made to authorities over the years, but the project has yet to be finished.
Residents pointed out that the area caters to a sizable population, including remote villages, and the absence of a nearby health facility poses risks during medical emergencies. They urged the government to expedite the remaining work and make the PHC operational at the earliest.
Warning of further agitation, villagers said the recent incident underscores the urgent need for accessible healthcare infrastructure. They called on authorities to treat the matter as a priority to prevent similar situations in the future.
