New Delhi: The Delhi International Airport management on Friday formed a committee to probe the roof collapse at Terminal 1 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport, leading to the death of one person and injuries to at least eight people.
A Technical Committee has been formed by the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) to investigate the cause of the incident. Additionally, DIAL is working with all relevant agencies, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Bureau of Civil Aviation (BCAS), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Delhi Police and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are jointly working to assess the situation and restore operations.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police have filed a case following the fatal roof collapse at Delhi airport under Sections 304 A (death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the Indian Penal Code.
DELHI AIRPORT ROOF COLLAPSE LATEST UPDATES
• Rescue operations were launched immediately by the Delhi Airport Emergency Response Team including Fire Fighting, Medical Team and Operations. The evacuation of passengers and all other individuals from T1 was carried out swiftly.
• All flight operations from Terminal 1 have been suspended till further notice and rescheduled by the respective Airlines to operate from Terminal 2 and Terminal 3, till the relief work is underway in the impacted areas.
• The Delhi Airport authorities announced a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to the family of the deceased, and Rs 3 lakh each to those injured. “Delhi Airport is extending all support to the families of the individuals. We have announced a compensation of Rs.20 Lakh to the family of the deceased, and Rs.3 Lakh each to those injured,” Delhi Airport posted on X.
• While the cause for the collapse is being ascertained, the primary reason seems to be the continued heavy rainfall over the past few hours.
